Tomato from a botanical point of view

In Western biology, a tomato is considered a relative of nightshade and in modern classification it is solanaceous. Despite the fact that in the USSR scientists isolated a tomato into a separate genus, it was also considered a berry because of its structure.

In the United States, a tomato by the court is a vegetable, regardless of its biological classification. In the European Union, it is decided to consider the fruits of a tomato as fruit.In Russia, where the Soviet classification system is still used to identify the tomato, it is considered a berry.
