This is really quite difficult to decide, because it looks like a berry or a fruit, but to taste, rather, like a vegetable, which we are accustomed to consider.

Tomato from a botanical point of view

According to the scientific classification, the tomato fruit is a multi-berry berry. In Western biology, a tomato is considered a relative of nightshade and in modern classification it is solanaceous. Despite the fact that in the USSR scientists isolated a tomato into a separate genus, it was also considered a berry because of its structure.

Tomato status in different countries

In the United States, a tomato by the court is a vegetable, regardless of its biological classification. In the European Union, it is decided to consider the fruits of a tomato as fruit.In Russia, where the Soviet classification system is still used to identify the tomato, it is considered a berry.
