The mountain system of the Cordillera is the greatest range of mountains in its length. The Cordillera is over 18,000 kilometers long.
This is the only mountain system on earth that runs across two continents - North and South America (extends along the western shores of these continents). Southern Cordillera is also called the Andes.

Cordillera are located in Canada, USA, Mexico, Venezuela, Colombia, Guatemala, Peru, Argentina and Chile. The width of the Northern Cordillera is 1600 kilometers, and that of the South - 900 kilometers.
The highest point of the Northern Cordillera is in Alaska - this is Mount McKinley, named after the 25th President of the United States, its height is 6193 meters. Interestingly, in the XVIII century, this peak belonged to the Russian Empire and was its highest point. Alaska is now owned by the United States of America. The highest point of the Southern Cordillera is in Argentina - it is Mount Aconcagua, which means "Stone Guard", the height is 6962 meters. This is the highest point of the Southern and Western Hemispheres of the Earth.
